"The color sergeant of the 1st Texas Infantry, George Branard, carried the Lone Star Flag from Eltham's Landing in May 1862 through Chickamauga in September 1863. A jovial and humble man, Branard was fearless and heroic in battle. His adventure started in 1861 when he took part in a daring oceanic expedition to capture U.S. forces near Indianola, Texas.
