Built-in 1774 by Reverend Alexander Dobbin, the Dobbin House is considered Gettysburg’s oldest historical building. Before and during the American Civil War this safe haven assisted runaway slaves as it served as a station along the Underground Railroad. During the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863, the Dobbin House was used by both the Union and Confederate Armies as a field hospital.
