by Timothy H. Smith

One of the most recognizable historical landmarks in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is the Farnsworth House.  This structure has been witness to some of the most poignant moments in American history.  From the fierce Battle of Gettysburg to the momentous morning of November 19th, 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln passed by on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery.

This book recounts the history of the fighting that engulfed the southern edge of town.  It is a story of snipers and constant skirmishing that left many bullet scars in the Farnsworth House.  Additionally, we are introduced to the owners and inhabitants of this building and how they were influenced by dramatic history of the battle.  Currently owned and operated by Loring and Jean Shultz and family, the house and grounds have undergone extensive renovations to become the fine establishment it is today.
